When I arrived in the outpatients clinic, the consultant announced she only wished to see patients with follow-on appointments despite that fact I had been referred as a new patient on an urgent 2 week referral basis, presenting significant red flag symptoms. By this point I had had to wait 19 weeks despite the 2 week referral request. With 5 minutes to go prior to the end of the clinic, the consultant called my name, asked me a couple of questions and then informed me that I could leave as the clinic has now finished. She handed me a piece of paper stating I had been discharged. There was no proper consultation or examination; something again that has been identified before for this consultant. I appreciate the challenges that the NHS faces and that fact that consultants are under significant stress and therefore become apathetic, but no progress was made in diagnosing or resolving the symptoms experienced so this appointment achieved absolutely nothing and wasted everyone's time. She showed no compassion, was not willing to listen to anything I had to share and made it clear she just wanted to get rid of me. She consistently over-talked me when I began to speak. My health continued to deteriorate and I had no other option but to go private. My new consultant has identified a significant condition missed by this consultant. I feel a sense of duty to report these findings purely so improvements can be made in the future for other patients likely to be in a similar situation.

Conduct proper reviews of patients, like other neurologists in the field. I have spoken to two other MS sufferers whom have also left Derby Royal as a result of inconsistent and worrying consultations and decisions regarding patient care and treatment.
